DRUG ENFORCEMENT AGENCY NPO internal Mandate and Organizational Statement:

The DRUG ENFORCEMENT AGENCY (DEA) NPO does not function as a crime prevention entity, but rather as a specialized crime-combatting organization dedicated to addressing crime at all levels and ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice.

While we do not prosecute cases ourselves, we work in close collaboration with the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) by providing substantial evidence, intelligence, and case support to enable successful prosecution through the legal system.

 

Our key focus areas include:

Supporting law enforcement in maintaining public safety and securing safer communities.

Fighting corruption and ensuring that corrupt individuals—regardless of rank or affiliation—are identified, arrested, and prosecuted.

Tracking and apprehending wanted suspects in coordination with official law enforcement agencies.

Gathering actionable intelligence on violent crimes and intercepting criminal activities before they occur.

Assisting all law enforcement agencies when requested, in full alignment with South African law.

High-Risk Operations and Violent Crime Response

The DEA NPO also specializes in high-risk tactical operations, particularly involving suspects who:

Engage in highway spiking

Commit armed robberies and hijackings

Are involved in human trafficking

Commit acts of gender-based violence (GBV)

Pose a direct threat to the public or minor children

These operations are carried out by highly trained personnel—often former members of SAPS or SANDF—within specialized DEA units.
